Scout magazine, the first free publication designed for millennials, burst on the scene with a huge bang last July 12. The Samsung Hall at SM Aura was packed to the rafters as the magazine celebrated its debut with a big ‘90s-themed party called “Scout Valley High,” powered by HIP Events. Presented by Hinge Inquirer Publications and co-presented by Systema Tooth and Gum Care and Hana Shampoo, the launch harked back to that nostalgic decade of everyone’s first loves and favorite things, all in line with the maiden issue’s theme of “Firsts.”
Hosted by indie actress Annicka Dolonius, the launch, which began early at 5:00 p.m., was stocked with games and activities for everyone, including arcade games, an air hockey table, beer pong tables by Cable Car Fort, plus a lounge area and vinyl record listening station set up by Heima Home and Lifestyle and My Apartment. Systema Tooth and Gum Care also had a booth where people could get their photos taken and go home with a free dental kit.
However, the main attraction was the bands. Strike Back Attack! booked an impressive line-up that featured Pedicab, Tarsius, Cheats, Ang Bandang Shirley, The Strangeness, The Ransom Collective, Autotelic, Danceplaycreate and Kai Honasan. Outside in the lobby, DJs Judd Figuerres, Brian Cua, and Xtina Superstar kept partygoers dancing with back-to-back ‘90s pop and R&B hits. Editor-in-chief Cai Subijano also went up onstage to speak about the magazine and thank everyone who made it possible.
In between sets, guests enjoyed free pizza courtesy of Shakey’s and chugged free beer from Colt 45 all night without failing to stay hydrated with Absolute distilled drinking water. On their way out, the first 500 guests took home free tote bags with the maiden issue of Scout, plus button pins and stickers. The first 100 attendees also went home with a pair of sunglasses from Sunnies Studio.
The event was officially covered by ETC, Jack TV and Super! with the special participation of CCG, Red Damien, BAM! Exhibits, Forerunner Technologies and Dunkin Donuts.
